In 2024, the Disability Determination Service (Social Security) will deny 75 percent of new disability claims. It is their standard operating procedure.
Many of those denied claims should have been approved and paid.
What must you do when Social Security denies your claim?
1. Find out WHY the claim was denied. Usually, it's because they aren't convinced that you have a severe medical impairment\ that meets their rules.
2. File an appeal within the required deadline of 60 days.
3. Talk to a Social Security disability advocate or lawyer to see if you need help with the appeal. That conversation should be free.
There are both medical and non-medical reasons for denial. If you were denied for medical reasons there's a good chance you can win on appeal. Many factors, of course play into those odds.
Failure to appeal within 60 days is a major reason for losing benefits. Do not file a NEW application without talking to a disability expert first. It may be the wrong move, which can cost you both time and money!
